Once again, the countries of northern Europe head this world ranking, which measures the progress made by countries in the development towards the information society. Eight of the top ten countries are from Europe and two are from the Asia-Pacific region. In terms of components, Hong Kong is the first in the 'access' sub-index, Luxembourg in the 'use' sub-index and South Korea in 'skills'. Special mention must be made of the fact that the third and fourth positions on the 'skills' sub-index correspond to Greece and Cuba, respectively. The absence of the USA among the top ten countries in the general ranking is particularly surprising and said country's highest position is tenth in the 'skills' sub index. More... |
